If you’re planning to jet off overseas in the near future chances are that your focus is firmly on where you plan to land. However, they say the journey is just as important as the destination, and this certainly rings true when it comes to your in-flight beauty regimen.

MORE – BWA’s Top Tips To Travelling

Long-haul flights are physically and mentally exhausting, and often you’ll find yourself feeling a little out of sorts by the time you hit the tarmac.

Read on for all the skin and beauty tips (for cruising at 37,000 ft!) that you need to know:

In Your Seat:

Tip #1 –

If you’re able to, the best way to start a flight is barefaced. You’ll want to be able to top up your skincare easily throughout the trip, and clean skin means less product in your carry-on.

Tip #2 –

Keep skin protected with a combination of serum and moisturiser layered. We love Peter Thomas Roth Oilless Oil (RRP $49) underneath Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief (RRP $59.00).

Tip #3 –

If your flight spans over more than 8 hours, you may like to cleanse your face at the halfway point – and try to avoid makeup wipes. Lips can chap quickly in the arid cabin air, so reapply a thick balm as often as possible, which can also double as a cuticle treatment.

Tip #4 –

And if you wear contact lenses, switching into your glasses for a flight helps to reduce irritation due to the dry environment – and you won’t need to be fumbling with those tiny lens cases in the bathroom stall. The Rohto range of eyedrops are by far the most effective at combatting redness (approx $8.00 RRP) – try the Arctic variety for the equivalent of a breath mint for your eyes.

Tip #5 –

The usual rules – plenty of water and occasional walks around the cabin – still apply, and act as backup to reduce fatigued skin on the face and body.

Destination In Sight

Tip #1 –

About an hour before you’re due to land is the best time to primp – especially useful if you’re planning on heading directly to a business meeting or social event. Keeping in mind that you’re probably somewhat sleep deprived, a dewy tinted moisturiser, curled lashes and a lip tint are the bare essentials for a quick pick me up.

Tip #2 –

Bareminerals Complexion Rescue Gel (RRP $43.00) and a Shu Uemura Lash Curler (RRP $18.00) will prove to be priceless additions to your makeup bag. For more coverage, a pressed mineral makeup feels light but will combat imperfections quickly (and with less mess.)

Tip #3 –

A final spritz of your favourite scent will have you back in the zone and ready to hit the ground running.

At The Hotel

Tip #1 –

While your first instinct might be to fall face first onto the bed and never leave, try to muster the energy to rinse your face in lukewarm water first. A rich cleansing product like Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm (RRP $55.00) will feel indulgent on dehydrated skin (this is not the time for foamy cleansers!)

Tip #2 –

Next, apply a mask targeted at your skin type to combat any rebellion that may have erupted en route (think clay masks for clogged pores and lush oils for tight skin). In the coming days, your skin may need to adjust to a different climate, so keep your routine simple and gentle – giving you more time to enjoy the trip.
