If you’ve ever wondered why off-the-shelf body exfoliators are so expensive, you’re not alone! On the lookout for a new scrub to reverse my autumnal skin back to its summery best, I hit up Google searching “best body exfoliators” to see what was out there.
Readily finding only one “cheap” option by Rimmel for around $13, the rest were mind-bogglingly pricey (Clinique: $50, Molton Brown: $70, Cle De Peau: $125 – gasp! Even the ‘Kardashian Glow’ was $35.95…really?)
BEAUTY HOW-TO: DIY EFFORTLESS WAVES
I wondered how hard it could be to make a DIY body exfoliator at home, and as it turns out (...surprise!) it’s not hard AT ALL. Better yet, making the scrub yourself puts you in the drivers seat to create a custom blend that’s just right for you. Grittiness, moisturisation type, and fragrance can all be tweaked.
It is very very easy, and chances are you’ll have all three ingredients sitting there waiting in the kitchen!
I began by making a basic brown sugar scrub with the following ingredients:
- 2 cups of brown sugar. (You can use white sugar if you want a softer, less gritty scrub)
- Half cup of olive oil (You can swap this for coconut oil – click here to read 12 ways to save money and de-clutter with this amazing ingredient, baby oil or any other type of oil.)
- Quarter cup of honey (optional)
- A few drops of essential oils (optional)
I simply combined everything in a glass jar with an airtight lid, and that was that. Voila!
